Kayla was born and raised in Edmonton. She graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law in 2019.
During law school, she volunteered extensively with Student Legal Services, an organization providing legal assistance to low income individuals. She took on as many files as she could and was thrilled when she was able to help her clients out of difficult and stressful situations.
In the summer, she facilitated a legal clinic at the Boyle Street Community Centre where she assisted marginalized individuals with their criminal matters. This opportunity was extremely challenging as many community members struggle with severe mental health issues, addictions, and homelessness. However, she was often able to help these clients navigate the criminal justice system while taking steps towards achieving healthier lifestyles.
In her final year, she interned at Legal Aid Alberta. Throughout her internship, she had the opportunity to work on serious matters most students would not be exposed to in law school. She also gained considerable experience working in Mental Health Court, Youth Court, and Traffic Court.
Kayla is happy to be a part of the team at King Defence and will strive to do the best she can to assist you.
